CD Reviews

Charly rips off The Meters and consumers with this release.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Funky Miracle is a 2-cd live album. Charly does not advertise this release as such. The recording has a bootleg quality to it, which makes the music hard to hear and appreciate. This release contains all the songs except one from The Meters' Josie albums plus 3 unreleased joints that the Meters performed in their shows. Charly rips off The Meters legacy and consumers with this release. The only saving grace of this complilation is The Meters themselves--that's only when you are able to pick up the music. But if you would like to hear a good live Meters album purchase Uptown Rulers. This release is a joke. Buy this at your own risk!!!"
This ain't live

"This double CD is a straight transfer of The Meters 3 Josie albums onto CD - It certainly isn't live. It's poor sound quality makes it outdated,...But at least Charly gave us Brits the chance to listen to the Meters in '93!"
Good early Meters collection

"The version I have collects most of their pre-major label releases. It is not live. These were fairly low budget recordings from the late sixties, so the production quality is nothing fancy. I don't think a significant amount of the original quality has been lost in this release.

I think the reviewer below who said that it is a bootleg quality live album is referring to a different release.

Its mostly instrumental with just a couple of songs with vocals. It really showcases their stripped down, almost minimalist, funky sound, akin to Booker T and the MGs. (Frankly, with two CDs it gets a bit repetitious after awhile but the best tunes are real gems, and the rest are still pretty funky Just don't listen to both CDs at once.)"
