CD Reviews

Don't judge too soon.

"There are enough longwinded reviews on Obzen detailing the intricacies of the music and lyrics, that I would rather keep this short and to the point. I have been listening to Meshuggah since 1998 - Destroy was the firt for me, and I have everything before and since. The common theme of Meshuggah albums, is that it can take YEARS to fully grasp and comprehend the music. Everytime I revisit one of the older albums, whether it is Chaosphere, Broken or even Contradictions, I find something new and find a new favorite track. While I like Obzen, I know that my opinion of it will change over time - for the better! This is challenging, complex, difficult music that requires time to fully digest. If you don't have the patience to listen, concentrate and revisit, you will never appreciate this music, so don't waste your time. I suspect most of the low ratings are from people who listened to the album less than 5 times. If you are a true Meshuggah fan and have enjoyed their previous stuff, you will like this -you just need to put in the effort."
INCOMPARABLE, IMPECCABLE MASTERPIECE

"This album has, for me, turned the world of music on its head. No matter how many times you listen to the tracks, you never get bored; this seems to be the common bug behind the music of today. It's capriciousness is startlingly fresh. The lyrics awaken us to the bleak world in which we live, and the guitars/bass/drums split the sky of our mind. A treasure trove of philosophical/political/and existential divulgence, which should make the average "thinker" relish in many an orgasmic climax. Really, how many albums out there can you name that actually make you think?

Is this one of the best albums of all time? Without a shadow of a doubt! This type of celestial artistry (atheistically speaking) deserves our attention.

MESHUGGAH, there is no other...
