CD Reviews

Deceptively Sinful
D. Seymour | Atlanta, GA USA | 10/15/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ravel's Daphnis & Chloe is a masterpiece of orchestration. It is pure magic as it builds from etherial nothings layering in the choir and then bursting into orgiastic splendor in the opening minutes. The Atlanta Symphony & Chorus are perfectly matched and recorded with incredible depth. The sound feels intensly lush and lost in its meandering score. The dynamics on this disc will bowl you over. A great Ravel disc if you want a clean departure from Bolero."
Never heard Ravel's masterpiece sound better.

"This extraordinarily seductive, lush, brilliant music and it's astonishingly colorful orchestration has never been captured more convincingly on compact disc. The artistry of the performance and vivid recording quality allow every detail to shine through. The most impressionistic, lush moments have plenty of richness and warmth, and the most exciting moments are much more thrilling than in any other recording of this music I've heard. The choral parts, which are often badly balanced and performed even worse, are very prudent here, and the very difficult a cappella passage is accurately and expressively sung."
Very nice quality

"My high-end system (Denon, Martin-Logan) is unforgiving. This CD sounds great."
