Synopsis

Album Description
This release marks the first multi-channel HDAD released by Classic Records as a two disc set. Disc one is the normal two sided DVD disc with 2-channel 24/192 data on the DVD-A side with 2-channel 24/96 data on the opposite side. The second disc in the package contains the multi-channel (four channel) data in the same configuration. That is, one side of disc two contains 4 channels of 24/96 data which is MLP (lossless) encoded and playable on multi-channel capable DVD-Audio players. Side two of disc two contains Dolby AC-3 encoded four channel surround data playable on DVD video players. As for the music: Seymour Solomon produced one of the finest performances of the past century of Berlioz's monumental Requiem. Featured is tenor Charles Bressler accompanying the Utah Symphony Orchestra, University of Utah Civic Chorale and University of Utah A Capella Chorale conducted by Maurice Abavanel. Recorded originally to four track 1/2" analog tape, this release is transferred directly from those original four track reels for the first time! All previous issues were transferred from a two track mix down master which, while excellent, cannot deliver the low level information that is had from the original 4 - track transfer used on this release. We used original LP copies to match the balance of the four to two channel mix and transferred in one pass to preserve the intentions of the legendary Seymour Solomon and Maestro Abravanel while allowing for a new level of detail that tells every truth about the sound of the Mormon tabernacle in which the recording was made. Stunning in its grandeur and its sonics - not to be missed! The multi-channel presentation, also transferred from the four track masters, represents a new standard in surround sound realism - close your eyes and be transported back to the actual event - or close to it. Highest recommendations!
