Synopsis

Album Description
Matt Duke presents his debut album 'Winter Child,' which was co-produced by Stewart Lerman (Loudon Wainwright, Dar Williams) and Steuart Smith (The Eagles, Shawn Colvin). This record tackles a number of topics ranging from self-destructive behavior ("To Whom It May Concern"), to casualties of inner city violence ("One Small Bird"), to the mourning of a loved one ("Don't Ask for Too Much"). "Tidal Waves," one of the forthcoming singles from 'Winter Child' and "Yellow Lights," one of the record's closing tracks, channel Duke's commentary on religion and politics, while "Ballroom Dancing" displays Duke's penchant for great literature with his ode to Hemingway's short story, "Hills Like White Elephants."

CD Reviews

Not to be missed!
Bridget D. Burke | Alexandria, VA | 09/13/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This twenty-one year old New Jersey native is quickly making his mark in the music industry. His gift for poetic and inspiring lyrics plus stirring melodies has led to some of the most captivating music on the airwaves today. Matt Duke brings us Winter Child, his full-length debut album. You won't find a sour note or a misplaced word on this folk-rock phenomenon's gem of a release.

Winter Child features contributions by musicians such as Marshall Crenshaw, Brad Roberts (of Crash Test Dummies) and Suzie Roche (of The Roches), plus others. But the shining star of this album is Matt Duke's signature songwriting style.

This album is not to be missed."
Great Album - Worth a full listen

"This CD was passed along to me from a friend. I listened to the CD from begining to end and found it to be excellent! Matt has some compiled some great tunes for your easy listening experience.

Oysters - has some great lyrics, fun up beat song, one of my favorite on the album. My favorite is Don't Ask, i love the chorus in this song.

If your looking for the Singer/Songwriter acoustic style that is simple fun and upbeat then this is a great CD for you...

Check it out and kudos to you Matt Duke!"
A must have

"For any lover of soft, folk, or acoustic rock this CD is an absolute must have. Duke's emotive delivery is channelled into the CD expertly while also keeping each track individual, distinct, and varying from mainstream pop. From Oysters which has more of a rock feel to Tidal Waves and the Love You'll Never Know which have more of a folk feel, you can sense Duke's personal presence in each track. The CD covers such a broad range of styles it is impossible not to love."
