CD Reviews

A terrific artist and a fine collection

"Mary Coughlan has been one of my favorite artists since I took a chance years ago and picked up her debut album Tired and Emotional. Nobody can really classify her style, but I'll call it smoky Irish lounge bar blues rock, to cover some of what she does. Her version of "Ride On" (you may have heard Christy Moore perform this) is stunning. This is a full length (74+ minutes) collection of what I agree is much of her best. The song list is as follows: Ancient Rain; Double Cross; I'd Rather Go Blind; Invisible To You; Ride On; A Leaf From A Tree; Delaney's Gone Back on the Wine; Sunday Mornings; Red Ribbon; Ice Cream Man; There is a Bed; Francis of Assisi; The Beach; Man of the World; Seduced; Nobody's Business/Tango; I Can Get Along Without You Very Well; Handbags and Gladrags; Whiskey Didn't Kill The Pain."
A must have

"I own a few hundred CDs and this is among the very best. Her voice has great character that comes from years of experience and hard times. Makes a nice change from the normal pop type girl voices. You might like this if you like Mary Black, Mary Chapin Carpenter or K.D. Lange for example. Not only is her voice amazing but the songs have a wonderful style as well with new topics not covered in other songs."
