CD Reviews

Honky tonk heaven
Alejandra Vernon | Long Beach, California | 03/29/2001

"This wild and fun CD (with some honey soft moments) is a gem. The title track, a duet with Travis Tritt, is sensational...they're fabulous together...and it's followed by the driving "Country Girls". "Thanks to You" is a love song with a strong beat and sweet lyrics: "My tired and hurtin' heart ~ that once was broke and torn apart is all new ~ thanks to you"...another love song, "Shelter from the Storm", is really beautiful: "I will stand beside you ~ through this whole life long ~ to love you and to be your ~ shelter in the storm".Marty wrote 8 of the 11 songs on this CD, and his wit has never been sharper than in "The Mississippi Mudcat and Sister Sheryl Crow". It starts out with a hilarious intro featuring "King" Jimmy Martin and his country music coon dogs and beagle hounds, and never lets up.The musicianship on this recording is top notch throughout, and the booklet insert excellent, with easy to read lyrics and info, and some nice photos. This is a tasty and terrific slice of country pie, served up by a super performer, musician, singer and songwriter."
Sorry to disapoint anyone.

"This sounds like Marty has ran out of ideas, so he tries to be funny. Actually I love Marty, but he needs to try something new. I know how much he loves traditional country, so do I, but where is HIS voice here? Trust me, go out and get "Hillbilly Rock," "Tempted" and "This One's Gonna Hurt You," and just let this one die quietly."
Marty always great

"While not Marty's best work, you always have to love him. He is a fabulous musician and always entertaining. The video of Travis and Marty singing Honky Tonkin's What I Do Best is Marty & Travis at their best. Marty has great moves and style. He is one of the few performers who bridge the past with the future. Love the picture on the cover, classic Marty."
