CD Reviews

Martin Gore's Stardust is a Real Treat!
Mr. | USA | 04/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Martin Gore goes solo once again with his new single, Stardust, from the album Counterfeit2. This is a very new and different side of Martin's musical talents that most of us have never heard before and they're quite refreshing to say the least. His take on Stardust drips of techno ominousness, yet still shows loyalty and stays true to David Essex's original vision. The Atom Vocal Remix is a bit more choppy, with Martin's voice sounding somewhat electronic at times. The Stewart Walker Remix of I Cast A Lonesome Shadow is catchy as all get out, with a brilliant mysterious moodiness, the kind you love to hear when you're driving in your car late at night. Just beautiful. And Life Is Strange is a great acoustic performance by Martin on guitar, that's as pure as it is sweet and tender. Martin has never been more captivating and at the same time, happy and peaceful about life, and it's just so refreshing to behold. Personally I love this cd single and can't stop listening to it over and over. I highly recommend it to everyone. This U.S. version should also be of interest to those in the UK, since every track from their CD single, DVD single, and 12" single are all available on this US CD single, with the one exception of the Video "Left Hand Luke And The Beggar Boys" by Martin on acoustic guitar from the UK DVD single, which I've seen and also love. I also found it rather interesting that this US single has the exact same number of tracks as Martin's original Counterfeit EP. Coincidence? But if you're a fan of Martin Gore and Depeche Mode, you'd be hardpressed not to pick this single up. Get into Martin's groove and just let go. You'll never be quite the same if you do.

The weakest song on the album

"I think that overall, Counterfeit 2 is a great album, but this song is easily the weakest link. Don't judge the whole of the album from this one song. Listen to Tiny Girls or Loverman and you'll understand where it's going. But Stardust just didn't do it for me."
Martin Gores Single

"The highlights on this single are the remix of I cast a lonesome shadow and life is strange. Stardust is a great single that really does need to be remixed. Martin does a great job of remaking this classic david bowie song. Any fan of depeche mode would enjoy this single."
