CD Reviews

Sheer vocal excellence!

"From the pop feel of "But Seriously" to the country/bluegrass/Southern Gospel style of "Some Things Never Change", Mark Lowry's solo work shows he can comfortably handle just about any musical style out there. His voice has pure beauty, his singing filled with emotion and passion. Like Patsy Cline, he's a definitive singer-once he gets hold of a song, it's difficult associating it with anyone else (as is the case with his often-covered "Mary Did You Know"). Fans of Mark's humor won't be disappointed. His self declared foray into rap tells the story of David in "Too Big To Miss". "I Wanna Go To Heaven" showcases Woody Wright's clever lyricism and Mark's vocal versatility as he handles all four parts of this "quartet". The other quartet showcase in this package is "I'll Trade the Old Cross For A Crown", featuring three-fourths of a past Gaither Vocal Band incarnation (Mark, Bill Gaither, Michael English) with Reggie Smith handling the tenor part. Mark also successfully recalls the style of the Singing Rambos, joined by Kim Lord and Amber Franks of LordSong on Dottie Rambo's "I Call Him Lord."Though "Make It Real" is pulled from the Gaither Vocal Band "I Do Believe" album to include on this release, its message remains as powerful and could see some new life should it be viewed for crossover possibility. "Some Things Never Change" will hopefully earn Mark some additional respect as a vocalist as well as a humorist. It's hard to imagine not taking notice of a voice like his."

"Ok let me begin by saying, that this is by far the best album That Mark Lowry has done. The vocal arrangements are done beautifully. My Favorite Song on the album Is "I Call him Lord". Mark has a lot of passion in his voice, and is one of a kind. If you've never bought one of Mark's Solo Singing Albums, This is the one to get. Congratulations on a job well done Mark. I highly recommend this album. It is simply Awesome!!!"

"It's hard to say what Mark Lowry is best known for. His comedy? His singing? Writing the lyrics to "Mary Did You Know?" But this CD reminds us of what a fine singer Mark Lowry is. By far my favorite song on this collection is "Isn't It Amazing," a wonderful song of worship and praise. Mark harmonizes with his friends on "I Call Him Lord" and "I Will Trade the old Cross for a Crown" and the results are lovely. Lowry's humorous side comes through on "Too Big to Miss," his own composition about the story of David and Goliath. "Some Things Never Change" closes with "Make it Real," a plaintive song about a person searching for the truth about God."
