Synopsis

Album Description
In 1963 Mario Ortiz and his All Star Band aroused the world of Latin music with his dynamism and musicality. Forty-five years later Mario Ortiz, Jr. embarks on a monumental production using the same musical arrangements with a twist to confirm his father's avant garde style. This tribute to Mario Ortiz and his All Star Band, is lead by salsa superstar, Gilberto Santa Rosa in conjunction with the legendary Fania All Stars such as Cheo Feliciano, Roberto Roena, Ismael Miranda, Papo Lucca, Adalberto Santiago, Richie Ray, Bobby Cruz, and Bobby Valentín. Also included in this historical production are salsa classics Andy Montanez, Tony Vega, Tito Allen, Ismael Rivera, Jr. and Pedro Brull. This homage to Mario Ortiz and his All Star Band also reunites former members of orchestras directed by Mario Sr. throughout his career such as Chico Rivera, Elias Lopés, Anthony Cruz and Primi Cruz just to mention a few. The infectious swinging style, the mix of mambo and regaetton, the sizzling Latin Jazz, the nostalgic boleros, the folkloric Bomba, Lecuona's immortal "Malagueña", and Mario Ortiz Jr. playing with his father in "El Cid" makes this album a jewel for a salsa connoisseur, a true collector's item!

CD Reviews

Best value salsa cd in years!
Samuel Rivera | Phoenix, AZ | 09/27/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I rarely write a review. But I had to on this cd. This is probably the best single cd I have purchased in years. It is a tribute to a former great trumpet player and bandleader, Mario Ortiz, by his son Mario Ortiz JR( himself a trumpet player) and an all-star cast of vocalists and musicians. It is a contemporary big band sound that is swinging from beginning to end. Outstanding tracks( which is nearly all of them) include El Soplo(Tito Allen), Se Acabo el Bembe( Ismael Miranda), Chinita (Gilberto Santa Rosa), Rumberito( Bobby Cruz and Roberto Roena), Yare Yare( Tony Vega and Pappo Lucca), Para los Bravos( Andy Montanez and co), A Quitarse ( Cheo Feliciano). The salsaton Mambo Infierno and Primi Cruz singing Que Bonito es Puerto Rico are very good too. If you get one salsa/rumba/mambo cd this year I think this is it. DJs should certainly consider adding this cd to their collection."

Cheo Feliciano

Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz

Andy montañez

Roberto Roena

Adalberto Santiago

Gilberto y Tony Vega

Ismael Miranda

Mario Ortiz Jr.

GRACIAS X ESTE TRIBUTO A MARIO ORTIZ SR.

LO HICIERON BIEN !!!

QUE VIVA LA SALSA --- DESDE GUAYAQUIL - ECUADOR"
