The name Antonio Caldara is a rarity today on concert programmes and in opera houses. The son of a violinist, Caldara (b. 1670), had a desirable musical education, gaining a place as a chorister at St Mark's Basilica where also he received instrumental tuition at the cello and keyboard. We see, through these sonatas, Caldara's original creative roots, composing these sonatas for his own instrument. These works are treasures of the solo cello repertoire. World premiere recording!
