The One & Only - Queen of Reggae Music
JoeyD | los gatos, ca | 02/13/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Yet another review page stark naked, so somebody has to throw something on about this legendary Reggae star. Marcia Griffiths, after all, used to back up the legend himself Mr. Marley when she made up one-third of The I - Threes (along with Bob's wife Rita and Judy Mowatt) way back when. But she was one hell of a solo artist in her own right and this compilation of hits is proof positive to that. This recording, displays many of her best work during her glory days between 1969 - 1974.

While her reputation might be rather obscure her in the U.S., back in Jamaica she has been dubbed with such mighty monikers as Reggae music's First Lady of Soul and The Queen of Reggae music. While I love Rita Marley and Judy Mowatt, my favorite I - Three has got to be Marcia.

Some of the covers she makes beautiful are John & Paul's "Don't Let Me Down" (a huge hit at the time in Jamaica), Dave Clark Five's "Put A Little Love In Your Heart", Nina Simone's "Young, Gifted & Black", along with such other notable pop hits as "Pied Piper", "Band of Gold" and the sublime, soul wonder "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (my personal favorite). Jah Man! This is great music folks! If you enjoy Reggae music, then you are going to be in for one hec of a ride. 20 fantastic songs sung with so much soul and feeling you will be scratching your head wondering why this one has only been reviewed one time up to this point.

EnJAH!"
