Synopsis

Sigo Siendo Yo (Still Being Me) is not only the title of Marc Anthony's new hits collection, it's also a reaffirmation of his status as one of Spanish-language music's preeminent voices. The stirring set is balanced with sweeping ballads ("Ahora Quien," "Se Esfuma Tu Amor") and Anthony's true forte--scorching salsa numbers ("Valio La Pena," Tu Amor Me Hace Bien"). Still, everything is vividly enhanced by Anthony's astonshing vocal range. The disc's two new songs are a toss up: "Lo Que No Di" is overblown, overwrought and ponderous. In other words, a likely theme song for some future telenovela. First single "Que Precio Tiene El Cielo" is much better, highlighted by a sweet, slowly building salsa rhythm. Some hits--"Dimelo," "Muy Dentro De Mi"--are equally familiar in their English-language versions but benefit from richer performances en espanol--usually the case with Anthony's material. Also included--perhaps as a sweet bit of foresight--is "No Me Ames," Anthony's 1999 duet with future wife Jennifer Lopez. --Joey Guerra

CD Reviews

Nice Collection of Marc Anthony Classics
Daniela M. Koontz | Houston, TX | 08/26/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Forget JLo, and the tabloid press, and just listen to the beauty of Marc Anthony's voice. He shines particularly on the pure hot salsa numbers. The ballads are all a little saccharine with all those violin strings, but the voice is still magic. It's a mystery why the songs in Spanish are always superior to the ones in English. Perhaps English just isn't a very romantic language. Anyhow, if you are looking for arrangements that have the big horn section power of Sinatra and the masculine voice to match, don't go buy Harry Connick Jr., give Marc Anthony a try."
Good CD, but....

"This CD has some good songs, but Marc Anthony has left out the songs that made him great. Where is "Contra La Corriente" or "Y Hubo Alguien" or "Hasta Que Te Conoci".

If you want to sample the true greatness of Marc Anthony, skip this one and go listen to "Desde un Principio: From the Beginning" That CD is his greatest."

"Excellent CD!!!

The only problem is that if you buy this collection thinking you can skip some of his albums, you are MISSING OUT.

He could have made 3 greatest hits CDs with his albums within this time span."
