CD Reviews

Magenta - Melodic Progressive Rock Concept Piece
Steven Sly | Kalamazoo, MI United States | 09/15/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Home" is the latest album from Magenta which tells the story of an English immigrant moving to the U.S.A. The tale is told in linear fashion taking the main character through her move to this country and here experiences once here. It is probably the band's most ambitious work to date and in my opinion their best. The music continues in the lineage of Renaissance, Yes, and Genesis with Christina Booth's soaring vocals on top of it all. The band also released a companion EP called "New York Suite" that fleshes out the storyline even further. Lots of great melodic guitar and keys to be found here, and the band even gets a bit heavy in spots. As with their other albums, the lyrics get a bit spotty in places, but this is a minor complaint. Overall this is another fine album from Magenta and fans of melodic progressive rock should snatch this up in a heartbeat."
