CD Reviews

Rare ep of Madonna classics.
K. Eisenberger | Defiance, Ohio United States | 07/15/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First off you get the full 12" mixes of "True Blue","Everybody" and Papa Don't Preach" but the real find is the 9 minute dub of "Everybody". This is a really rare mix and worth every penny for it. This cd like I stated before is full of classic early Madonna tracks a very good buy."
A True Blue Madonna Classic!

"True Blue was the third single to be released from Madonna's third album of the same name. Released in October 1986, True Blue went straight to No.1 in the UK and spent 15 weeks on the chart. It was also Madonna's third No.1 in the UK, but the song didn't do as well in the US.

True Blue begins with a catchy pop beat that sounds very upbeat and incredibly camp. This then adds more of a tune to it, becoming all the more familiar and fun all the time. Madonna then begins her singing with the first verse, "I've had other guys, I've looked into their eyes, but I never knew love before, 'til you walked through my door. I've had other lips, I've sailed a thousand ships, but no matter where I go, you're the one for me baby, this I know 'cause it's..." This first verse is incredibly corny, but you can't help but be swept away by the driving beat and the unique quality to Madonna's vocals, which are much better than what they usually are. Madonna then sings the classic chorus, "True love, you're the one I've been dreaming of, your heart fits like a glove, and I'm gonna be true blue, baby I love." Madonna then gleefully completes her second verse and chorus with pure innocence as we are next introduced to what I feel is the best part of the song. Madonna suddenly begins to sing, "No more sadness, I kiss it good-bye. The sun is bursting right our of the sky. I searched the whole world for someone like you. Don't you know, don't you know it's..." She then obviously goes on to sing the chorus, but this section just mention above has some sort of reaction in me that makes me remember a certain holiday I went on years ago that brings back all the happy memories. I vaguely remember the song being played on a radio station again and again over the course of the three weeks. Madonna then goes on to complete the song with the repetition of the famous chorus a few times. The song slowly winds down like a setting sun as the backing singers take over.

I have to say that the video to True Blue is absolutely apalling! Madonna still has awful bleached-blonde hair and bright lipstick in the video, and dances around in a blue room with her friends - the type of blue room where you can't tell where the floor ends and the walls start! She has three female dancers with whom she dances around a lamp post, sits at a diner, drives a car (incredibly slow) and just acts like a bit of a crazy person! All in all, a great pop classic from Madonna that deserves its fame, but an awful video that will make even the biggest of Madonna fans cringe with embarrassment!"

"This is a nice EP to have, nice remixes of True Blue, Everybody, as well as an extended of Papa Dont Preach and the song Live To Tell. A must have for collectors or fans in general."
