'4 Minutes' Remixes for the Club

"'4 Minutes' poses the same problem that many songs from "Confessions on a Dance Floor" did; how do you remix a song that sounds rather mixed already? The mixes included in this release are fun though my only complaint is that in one setting they sound rather similar. There wasn't an attempt to vary the sound of the song and make it into a rock song, or say, a pure pop song. All of these mixes are pretty much club-orientated, which is cool, but this maxi single does lack in variety.

That being said, there are some good mixes that make this release worth buying. The "Junkie XL" and "Junkie XL Dirty Dub" are both the best cuts from the album. For once, the dub isn't boring and a throw-away track but turned into something worth listening to. The "Bob Sinclair Space Funk Mix" keeps with the trumpets/synths/zipper-sounds to give the song a more airy sound and removes the trumpets and drums from the original mix. The "Rebirth Mix" is different in that it has a chill-out sound to it, smoothing out the vocals and scaling back on the instruments to play more with the vocals. The "Peter Saves Paris" mix is good in that it features Madonna more so than Justin Timberlake, unlike in the original mix of the song. It's one I actually heard in a club and it is very danceable, fun, pure dance club with a big sound and heavy synths and beats. The Tracy Young mixes are okay but don't stand out that much when compared to the other mixes.

In all, fun, nice, very dance and club orientated. My only hang-up is that the remixes sort of blend and clash with one another and I wish there had been more variety to perhaps see what '4 Minutes' could have sounded like with a different consideration or beat, such as making it into a rock song or pure pop, something done with other Madonna songs on previous Maxi singles. But, with that, definitely worth buying for your collection and to add to your music library. If you enjoyed the "Hung Up" maxi single of 2005, you'll probably like this one as it sounds like a continuation of the song with similar lyrics and the clicking clock sounds running throughout. Check it out."
4 Minutes Too Long

"Geez, I'd heard SO much about this so I decided to order the single. That was, perhaps, a mistake. The first two mixes--DEFINITELY the only from Dirty XL--are fine; after that, it's all downhill. I will have to agree with one other reviewer, Tracy Young's mix is just tired and Peter Rauhoffer's isn't much better. I expected so much more from them and was very disappointed in their inputs; neither delivered. I had hoped for a remix by Offer Nissam but that wasn't to be.

I'll wait for the release of the CD/album--whatever you want to call it. I just hope that if there are other songs remixed from it, they turn out better than the majority of these. Not worth your money except for the remix by Dirty XL."

"B.Sinclair and Tracy Young remixes are fantastic and Junkie XL plus Peter Saves add new dimensions to the remix field."
