COME ON WITH IT GIRL
Patricia L. Cole | Chicago, IL USA | 06/29/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was shopping in a mall, heard this fab and sultry voice with the intoxicating beat. I had to know who is this? What is this song? Sounds like Boy George, Tina Turner, Billie Holiday, Rod Stewart! Who is this? A customer told me, "It's Macy Gray, singing I Try". I rushed to the closest CD store and purchased this jewel for myself. Little did I know I was in for a treat. This girl knows how to work her sexual lyrics; in Caligula and Sex-o-matic Venus Freak! Whooa, baby! See, I am a late forties woman, the kid stations put sex out on the table "lick the lips below your navel" too crass. But this lady, dresses up her sexual songs that gets the point across in a wordplay that's outta this world. Not only that, "Still" speaks to many women who stay in a bad relationship. She's soooo real. Her first cut, "Why didn't you call me", Yeah baby, I can relate. Her spiritual side boggles my mind. Tellin' God, "I can't wait to meet you." That should be played on some of the Christian radio stations. And "I Committed Murder" what skillful ideas she has! She's the bomb. I can't wait to see another release. COME ON WITH IT GIRL!"
Great CD, I start my day with "I Try" or "Do Something"

"On How Life Is a great CD. It deserves much more airplay than it is currently recieving. Her raspy voice can be compared to a variety of singer such as Billie Holliday, Tina Turner with a hint of Stevie Nicks. The songs are well constructed and the music is a cross between R&B, rock and roll from a wide range of eras. "Do Something" has modern '60s sound and "I Try" is a medium tempo ballard. "Caligua" has a catchy hook with it's "Beau doh doh dah" throughtout the chorus and matching percussions. Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak has a Mode Squad flava minus the sexual lyrics of course. I would also recomend seeing Macy live if you get the opportunity. She puts on a nice live performance."
Worth the extra for "Rather Hazy"....

"Even though it's the bonus track, RATHER HAZY is the best track on this CD! If you have enough spare cash to pay this much for a CD, I thoroughly recommend paying extra for the bonus track. Alternatively, do what I did - buy the regular album, and the "Do Something" single, which also features the track "Rather Hazy"."
