A lotta bang for your bucks

"Plenty of tracks on this nifty British import, showcasing Liza's early studio recordings for Capital Records. The Peter Matz arrangements are so lush you could wrap yourself in front of a fire with them, and Liza's voice is simply stunning. Best tracks: "Meantime," "Maybe Soon," "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise," "If I Were In Your Shoes," a particularly haunting "Try To Remember", "The Travelin' Life," a poignant "Plenty of Time" that hints at the brilliant actress she would later become, and her best studio recording of "Maybe This Time" EVER (yes, better than the film, IMHO).Buy it as her comeback escalates. This is HER year, and a well-deserved one."
The sweetest thing

"yes, that's what it is - the sweetest thing of all liza;s disks (and I own plenty). it is not the best - as Liza's voice and performance manner matured they both got more sensual and truthful. yet, "Deep in December" is an ultimate masterpiece - Liza doesn't sound her age, and listen to it carefully, her performance is so influenced by Judy - truly amazing."
Early Liza a real treat

"This CD features most of Liza Minnelli's early Capitol Records output. Although her voice was still in the developing stages, her youthful exuberance and powerful belt are very much in evidence and the dynamics of her range are well-defined. Kander and Ebb actually wrote "Maybe This Time" especially for Liza in 1963, and it was added for the film of CABARET specifically for that reason. Most people regard her 1964 recording as the superior rendition, myself included. There is something of a youthful wonderment in her voice that sets her apart from other singers of her generation. Liza Minnelli recorded for the Capitol label between 1964 and 1967, creating three chart-topping albums and several hit singles. During this time, Liza also made her Broadway debut in FLORA THE RED MENACE and won a Tony Award, and made her cabaret debut at the Plaza Hotel. Hollywood would beckon in 1969, and just three years later she won her Academy Award for CABARET. A very heady period, and the building excitement in her life and career is captured in these very special Capitol recordings.

From the kookily-sexy "It's Just a Matter of Time", to other hit Broadway standards like "Together" (GYPSY) and "I'm All I've Got" (BRAVO GIOVANNI), to the haunting "Try to Remember", and the optimistic "If I Were in Your Shoes", this collection is a must for all Liza fans."
