CD Reviews

To know George is to love him

"Those of us who are students of the harmonica couldn't do better than to take a listen to George. George ranks right up there with the greats like Sonny Boy and Little Walter although you rarely hear his name mentioned in that company or at all for that matter. His use of the oft neglected chromatic harmonic in the blues was original, and his influence runs rampant in the playing of today's Harmonica's heros. These sides are some of George's best, and since his selections on CD are scant (what a shame) you have no choice but to pick up this CD. Not only will you hear him on chromatic, but you'll hear his very original minor-diatonic playing as well. Whenever I hear folks like Rod Piazza (who used to tour with George), William Clarke or Kim Wilson play the chromatic I hear George as well. High praise indeed."

"PLAYING AN A HARP IN THE KEY OF B (3RD POSITION), PLAYING CHROMATIC, PLAYING WITH THE BUTTON IN (BLUES IN THE DARK)....THIS IS THE BLUES HARMONICA PLAYERS DICTIONARY. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM THIS ITS SILLY, AMONG OTHER GOOD HARP CDS, THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE HOPING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE BLUES HARP THING. NOT TO MENTION GEORGES AMAZING VOCALS, UNREAL GUITAR PLAYING (THAT MOST EVER GUITARIST WILL LOVE), AND GREAT FUNKY BEATS. THIS ALBUM WAS WAY BEFORE ITS TIME (50S) AND WAY OVERLOOKED BY MANY PEOPLE....INCLUDING HARP PLAYERS!
GET IT! PICK IT UP QUICK!"
