CD Reviews

VERY Promising!!!

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Before "Tales of the Badlands" even came out, I was already floored with the artist known as Liquid. The work he showcased on tracks, such as tobyMac's "Atmosphere Remix(Ambiante)and "What Have We Become" on the FREAKED! album, were SOLID!!!

Coming off the high of those tracks, I almost feel like Liquid didn't bring everything he had to this record. Or maybe he just gave EVERYTHING he had to those guest spots.

This is a very good album, but the fact that I put in a different CD after a few spins, maybe tells me that I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Maybe, I put too much of a high expectation on the man. A lot of the record is consumed with a sort of sing-rap style. That's not bad, but he seems to repeat this formula.

Liquid busts into a rhyme every here and there and he does it confidently. He also dips into reggae displaying an almost genuine imitation of a true rasta man. I was so impressed that he pulled it off, that I had to check the linear notes to make sure it was still him.

There is one song that is completely in Spanish and it almost feels out of place. But I don't see that as a bad thing. I just see it as a reason to give Liquid props for his vast diversity of styles.

I enjoyed this album and I truly can't wait to hear future stuff from our man, Liquid."
