CD Reviews

Seventies soul singer with unique voice
Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 03/07/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Linda Lewis, a singer with a high soprano voice, had her greatest commercial successes during the late seventies (although she still makes new albums occasionally) and it is from that period, during which she spent a lot of time in America, that this collection is compiled. Fans looking for Rock-a-doodle doo can find it on the Reprise collection covering her music of the early seventies.

Linda is best remembered in Britain for her stunning cover of It's in his kiss, which was her only top ten hit there. She also did an amazing cover of Winter wonderland (it's my favorite version of this song) Other covers include Save the last dance for me (Drifters), Remember the days of the old school yard (Cat Stevens), Come back and finish what you started (Gladys Knight) and This time I'll be sweeter. Linda's distinctive voice ensures that her versions are always worth a listen.

Linda sometimes wrote her own songs, several of which are featured on this collection. Despite their quality, none of them are famous. If you enjoy seventies pop/R+B music, you will enjoy the music of Linda Lewis."
