Synopsis

Album Description
2008 anthology of Linda's music from the Blues-shouting years of the '50 containing very rare tracks now in CD for the first time. Linda Hopkins has been singing and touring for over 50 years, having enjoyed some chart success in duets with Jackie Wilson in the early '60s. This CD features her Blues-shouting roots recording with Johnny Otis for Savoy. Includes powerful performances written and produced by the emergent Leiber & Stoller in Los Angeles, then rocking Blues from Kansas City and New York and Rock 'N' Roll sides from 1957. All recordings feature Linda in vibrant vocal form on both shouters and ballads. Influenced by Bessie Smith, she won awards for her performances in Broadway musicals in the '70s, and toured the USA and Europe with Blues musical revues in the '80s. Shout.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This compilation of the early recordings of Linda Hopkins lets her shine and show off her amazing voice. Its to bad Linda never acheived the stardom that others of that era with lesser talent did, but she is an amazing singer even now at age 84! You'll enjoy this CD and should tell your friends about it . . . everyone needs to hear the best blues shouter around."
