CD Reviews

Disappointed
S. Benson | Alabama | 09/20/2007
(1 out of 5 stars)

"I was very disappointed to discover that there are no vocals on this CD. It is 100% instrumental. I assumed that since Leon Russell is primarily known for his singing, that he would sing. He does not."
No vocals and a little short
Sören Schneider | leipzig | 10/05/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Leon Russell plays a few Christmas tunes on his keyboard and the "orchstra" seems to be also just a keyboard sound. No vocals and just half an hour of music is really a bit short but Leon plays the tunes nice, he still is the master of keyboards of any kind and also in making fine arrangments."
Hey, This Song List Was His Mother's Favorite Carols
H. Brown | Omaha, Nebraska United States | 05/09/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Obviously most of these reviewers didn't read anything about Leon's intentions when he recorded this CD. These Christmas songs were his mother's favorites. His talent as a true classical pianist shine through on this offering. When he first was learning to play piano, he was being primed as a classical pianist.

Leon has had many harsh reviews from the critics, because he has never been locked into one genre. Throughout his career he has been bold and fearless at his trade. How many players, no matter what instrument they play, can go from his gospel Rock & Roll beginnings (after backing Sinatra and tons of huge performers in the studio), to Jazz, Country and even blue grass and do each of them as though he'd done each as his only genre?

You can argue until the "cows come home", that this isn't what you expect from Leon, but that is what makes him a master! He can literally do it all. If he has showed the music industry anything, it is his diversity that continues to leave a legacy and the public should NEVER expect anything from him except a great performance from the studio or when you see him live.

And for the person who is waiting for Leon to sing Christmas hymns, wake up. His singing voice wasn't intended for crooning or caroling.

If you want very nice back ground music while opening presents with your loved ones, this is exactly what Leon was offering."
