More Excellent work from the Tolkien Ensemble

"If you liked "At Dawn in Rivendell" you'll like this one too. Some pieces are better some are not. Christopher Lee does a superb job again, though I think he might have been over-used, it sounds weird for him to do Theoden's Battle Cry (15) and then At Theoden's Death (16) immediately after.

I especially like Song of Durin (10), very dwarvish sounding. And Song of Earendil (9). Earendil did not sound as I "heard" it in my head, but it's growing on me.

Though there are many short tracks they don't cop out on total CD length with 22 tracks. The short ones are classics that I am very glad they kept in, like the Verse of the Rings (2) in the black tongue, Theoden's Battle Cry (15), and the Call to Arms of the Rohirrim (21).

Two tracks are a nice reprise from "At Dawn". A slightly different version of Ho! Tom Bombadil (13) and the Long List of the Ents (19), this time with Hobbits on the list.

One last thing: The insert is awesome! It has the paragraph from LotRs leading up to each song / poem as well as the lyrics."
Even Better the Second Time Around

"I recently purchased "An Evening in Rivendell" and loved it, so I was eager to get my hands on another album by The Tolkien Ensemble. The first time I listened to "Leaving Rivendell," I was a trifle surprised and disappointed - the score was more complex and operatic rather than the more simplistic nature of "An Evening" and felt a bit overdone in parts. Yet after I had listened to the CD a second time, I quickly warmed up to it. This is an interesting and creative accomplishment by the Ensemble and well worth purchasing for anyone who is a Tolkien fan."
