Coryell Plays With Fire ! or Larry Rocks Out Bigtime!

"Well I never thought I would hear a cd the likes of this coming from Larry now...I am a big fan of Larry's work in his early days..."Barefoot Boy " as well as "Live at the Village Gate " are my two all time favorite Larry Coryell albums. Also in fact are on my list of my 10 favorite albums period!Yes they are that good! Larry in his early twenties with his big Gibson and big glasses was one hot player when really just starting out and originating the music which is heard to this day ( in the right places )

Oh what a great thing it is to hear Larry's tone on the first song " The Opening " a fabulous tune with Larry's masterful use of the wah-wah which he used for several of his killer tunes in the early seventies...his wah -wah work here was perfect and so glad to hear Larry whipping out with his version of Hendrix influenced playing ( Hendrix had just passed away when he released " at the Village Gate and Barefoot Boy" and I believe Larry was tipping his hat to Jimi.....

I will bring to an end this review to say that my favorite tunes on the new cd " Earthquake at the Avalon " are 1.) The Opening 2.) Slow Blues 3.) Morning Sickness 4.) The Real Great Escape and finally the killer closing tune " The Dragon Gate " wow so great to hear the music again and along with Larrys son Julian ( a fine player and son )who's help with the event and the cd is a huge present for any fans of Larrys early work and or of just well played guitar music!

Larry is one of the finest players ever if not the finest period! The only other player who is in his league would be of course John McLaughlin and how I wish John would get out his Les Paul Custom and he and Larry could play some really rocking tunes....I think a Larry and John live lp would be great...but no Shakti type tunes but pure hard rock...

Well the bottom line is BUY THIS CD as it is HOT and Larry you are the man!

Get out get this cd it is a keeper!

"Someone was lamenting this was not the Larry he wanted to hear. The beauty of Larry is he's got an incredible spark regardless of the style or genre he's playing. I listened to this and initially thought this has the energy and blues funk of "Band of Gypsies", but it's Larry's masterful tone and style that transcends that comparison.

No point trying to compare or describe. If you like Larry and his rock inflected styles, you can't miss this and must listen."
