CD Reviews

Good stuff
Monkey Boy | Hell | 03/27/2002

"If you're into jammy techno or techno-ey jam, this is the disc to own. In my mind, Lake Trout is better than STS9, the New Deal and anyone else Ive heard attempting to make this kind of music. And this is Lake Trout's best. Also, this doesnt really get old, unlike real techno. Good stuff."
Deeper than you would Guess...

"I listened to the CD for about 3 months before I had a chance to see LT. I learned that there are many different levels that LT can be listened to on--from background music to intent listening with rewards. This band will grow on you with repeat listenings, and you will hear different things every time you listen. That is my measure of a great band. The "Live" experience is far more rewarding than the CD--they have a very unique way of jamming, and yes, they do improvise to a great extent. LT is a Band that doesn't take 45 minutes to warm up and get into the Groove like most jam bands--they come out of the starting blocks in the groove, and they take you with them. The drummer is incredibly strong. He doesn't use "bounce" as much as most drummers--actually hits with intent almost every note. He is amazing to watch. The Bassist actually controls the direction of the band; reminiscent of the way Phil Lesh used to lead the Dead. The lead guitarist is unique, and never makes mistakes. They are amazing, and I would recommend this CD to anybody who is interested in avant gard type listening. A very rewarding buy, and you will hear a lot more from this band."
Fantastic blend of indy-rock and drum'n'bass

"I'm not sure I can add much more than has already been said, but the flow to this album is superb, and DJ Who adds a perfect dimension to the unique Lake Trout sound. While at times the compositions themselves seem a bit weak, the album as a whole is fantastic to listen to, and I had it in my car CD player for three or four days straight, which is pretty amazing considering I have a twenty-minute commute each way to work. I definitely recommend this album for anyone curious as to what the hype is about...Lake Trout mixes the rhythms of drum'n'bass quite well with some of the sounds of more standard indy-rock, while even blending in a little bit of the jazzy aspect to their songs. It's dark, but not brooding, and there is a lot of motion to the album. Definitely a recommended CD to pick up."
