CD Reviews

Wrong title, great CD

"I don't know why they picked the title "Country Collection"
for this CD. Kris is considered a country artist (although he treads
the borders of rock and folk as well), but this is not a collection of
his most 'country' songs. Rather this CD combines two of his lesser
known albums, "Repossessed" from 1986 and "Third World
Warrior" from 1990. Although his music was always political, this
period is when it was the most explicitly so. "Shipwrecked in the
Eighties" was dedicated to the Vietnam vets. "They Killed
Him" is about all those activists who were assassinated (King,
Ghandi, Christ). The other songs on "Repossessed" are along
the same vein, most show Kristofferson's trademark sarcastic
cynicism. "The Heart" and "Love is the Way" are a
bit more upbeat. "Third World Warrior" is something of a
concept album about Reagon's dirty war in Nicaragua. Given that, the
album is surprisingly accessible and universal. "The Hero"
and "Don't Let the Bastards (Get You Down)" are among the
better songs. Willie Nelson duets on the tribute "Jesse
Jackson". This is great music. My only reservation is that
"Third World Warrior" being a concept album limits how well
these two fit together. However, both albums are now out of print and
not likely to be reissued soon. Given that, Kristofferson fans will
likely appreciate this one.

Not country, but a must have!

"This combines pretty much two hard to get Kristofferson CD's, Reposessed and Third world Warrior. I know Third World Warrior is out of print because I paid a fourtune for a copy when my Macaw got ahold of mine, and I listen the Reposessed CD almost every night.I think Reposessed may also be out of print. I'd snap this up as fast as I could cause when it's gone so is your chance at some great Kristofferson music. Be aware tho that this is not really a country CD, one it's political, and two it treads closer to his rock style. I love these CD's and some of the songs on them are among my favorite Kristofferson material."
