Album Description Remembering Bill Evans is Karen Gallinger's third release on Sea Breeze Jazz. It is remarkable not only for the abilities of this gifted vocalist, but for the material itself. All of the songs, except "I Remember Bill" a beautiful tribute written by Don Sebesky, are Bill Evans' originals . Thanks to the cooperation of the Bill Evans Estate, Ms. Gallinger assembled some very special material for this project, including previously unrecorded and unknown material. This is extremely challenging material, handled with sensitivity and intelligence by a singer with a voice hailed by critics as "astonishing" and "extraordinary". Some Highlights: This is the debut recording of "Catch The Wind", a song Evans wrote but never recorded. The lyrics, written by Ms. Gallinger, are based on the history of the title as told to her by his widow, Nenette. Karen has also written lyrics for We Will Meet Again, Time Remembered (Dawn Preludes) and Funkallero. The year 2000 marks the 20th anniversary of Bill's passing. "Remembering Bill Evans" is a beautiful and moving tribute by a truly gifted singer. A word about the Liner Notes on the first pressing: At the time of release it was believed that the handwritten lyrics found to Remembering The Rain were penned by Evans, himself. Since the cd's release we discovered that the lyric was actually written by Eleana Tee. The author has since published the lyric with TRO under her own name, and we will be correcting the information on future pressing. Similar CDs

CD ReviewsNot just another Bill Evans tribute Nenette Evans | Laguna Niguel, CA USA | 07/07/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Karen Gallinger's recent Bill Evans tribute is a tour de force. In it, the Southern California based singer, has gone where others have feared to tread. Why we all wonder have lyricists skipped over Evans music. Answer, the sheer mind-bending challenge. Gallinger's handling of the material assures that Bill Evans is well on his way to becoming a household word. This CD is comprised of almost all Evans' original works to which Gallinger has added a fair share of lyrics. Evan's tune, "Funkallero", is destined to become an instant jazz classic coupled here with Gallinger's witty lyrics. "Catch the Wind" was discovered posthumously by Evans' music editor, Judy Bell and Evans' widow. This is a heartbreaker, whose lyrics are centered on Bill Evans' death in 1980 and the loss experienced by his five year old son. The musicians stretch out here, especially Tom Zink who seems to have captured the inherent pathos of the music and the sad event. "Five", really cooks. This intricate piece is beautifully married to Janice Borla's clever lyrics. There have been inummerable Bill Evans tributes over the last 20 years since his death at 51. This is one of the premier all vocal tributes to Bill Evans, who himself was a closet lyricist. These jewels are not in the category of "art song," they are that and more." She has obviously spent a lot of time studying him -- when she sings to his music (usually lyrics of her own inspiration) it's as if Bill were sitting next to her. Of course, in this case the man at the piano is Tom Zink, a musical genius in his own right and a true Bill Evans afficionado. Karen Gallinger has a voice that is made for singing jazz -- it's throaty, clear, and delightful to listen to. I saw her live at a recent concert at the Carmel Jazz & Blues Company (KRML radio) -- I bought the CD immediately. Even if this is your first Bill Evans-related CD, I recommend it highly. No matter what music she's singing, I consider Karen Gallinger among the best of jazz singers."
