Synopsis

Album Description
"A hip piano-playing saloon singer... the pathos, the whiskey edge, and the warm vibrato... convince me he should be heard more often." -- REX REED "A superb talent." -- CHICAGO TRIBUTE "Thrillingly good." -- JOEL SIEGEL, NPR CRITIC "Cool, classy and clever, Justin Hayford's impeccable taste is an oasis of sanity in a world gone mad." -- SHOW BUSINESS WEEKLY "All the romantic elegance you could ask for... smart and inventive." -- OAKLAND TRIBUNE "A remarkable lyric interpreter and marvelous keyboardist." -- CABARET SCENES "Hayford knows what croonng is all about-he's unequalled." -- AFTER DARK CHICAGO A collection of rarely heard Cole Porter gems! Hayford specializes in reviving little-known songs from the thirties and forties. With his sell-out Rare Find series at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret in Chicago, he has rescued dozens of forgotten gems from undeserved obscurity. Follow up to Hayford's last CD, which Show Business Weekly voted the Best male Cabaret CD of 2005.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"All of Hayford's albums are gems-- this one too. He shows some of his excellent piano chops too-- but it's really the vocals that shine. He has a very expressive and lithe tenor voice-- very reminiscent of Matt Denis at his best, and as always finds an interesting repertoire with several obscure Cole Porter songs, or a few well known ones with some alternative lyrics. Not every song is CP's best perhaps-- but fascinating anyway. Great performance.

I think Hayford is really Bobby Short's successor."
