They can't take June away from me...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD, entitled Spotlight On June Cristy from the Great Ladies Of Song CD series, gives June Cristy fans a very strong single CD retrospective of the highlights from June Cristy's singing career. June sang so beautifully she could have charmed the birds right out of the trees; and the sound quality is excellent. The artwork is very good, too.

When June sings "How High The Moon" it really makes me smile; she delivers this without a superfluous note and I love this beginning of this CD. "I Remember You" features June squarely front and center--right where she belongs! June could take a tune and make it a brilliant melody; and "I Remember You" is proof of that. In addition, "Give Me The Simple Life" charms me with its beauty; June sings this great and the somewhat jazzy musical arrangement perfectly complements June's vocals.

"They Can't Take That Away From Me" has June belting this one out with loads of elegance and panache; the horns work very well on "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and I predict that you'll enjoy this number very much. Similarly, "(It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along" shines when June Cristy performs it with all her heart. June gave blood whenever she performed; and it shows on this track and all the others, too.

"Imagination" was always one of my very favorite songs; June tackles this with great expertise and it comes out smelling like roses. There's also a monophonic recording of "I'll Take Romance;" but this is so well produced here on this album it sounds every bit as good as all the other tracks. I'm impressed. Listen also for June to do a wonderful job on "Don't Get Around Much Anymore;" this classic tune gets a jazzy arrangement and coupled with "How Long Has This Been Going On" these two ballads make a very special addition to this CD.

"When You Wish Upon A Star" gets the royal treatment from June, she delivers this with lots of sensitivity and I really like "When You Wish Upon A Star." The album closes with June Cristy performing ""Good-Bye." Although "Good-Bye" represents the ending of this CD; don't let this be your "good-bye" to June Cristy--if you like this album you should consider getting other CDs by June available for sale on this website.

June Cristy will go down in history as being one of the greatest female vocalists ever. I highly recommend this album as a good starter CD for people just discovering June; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will cherish this album as well.
