Synopsis

Album Description
Despite his roots, (the son of jazz great Larry Coryell) Julian Coryell is more aptly cut from the same cloth as Robbie Williams, Jeff Buckley, and Todd Rundgren. Julian's new CD, Rock Star, is an homage to the pop music of the 60s and 70s. Rock Star proudly wears it's eclectic influences on it's ambitious sleeves. The title track whimsically evokes the spirit of early Queen; Living in L.A. gives a nod and a wink to the Beach Boys; "You are Not Glass" is something Simon and Garfunkel might have written if they were Gen-Xers; and Ram era Paul McCartney inspired "Day Off."

CD Reviews

An Eclectic, Intelligent Album

"I discovered Julian when he recently opened at an Aimee Mann show. After enjoying his set, I found more than a few songs really stuck with me and decided to purchase his cd, "Rock Star" I am so glad that I discovered this album as it is quickly becoming one of my favorites and has been playing almost non stop since I got it. What makes this album so incredible to me is how eclectic it is. Like most albums I enjoy, it of course met my prerequisite for literate and thought provoking lyrics and well fitted melodies. But where I feel Julian has exceeded the norm with this album is in how nearly every song is of a different style-and amazingly, he pulls this off brilliantly. As you can tell,I highly recommend this album. If you're looking for something new and want an album that is almost guaranteed to get you thinking/feeling and excited...this is it.Kudos, Julian."
Larry's son comes into his own with a monster cd!!!

"I'll keep this short: This is a stunning cd, one of the best of the year already. Echoes of Brian Wilson, Queen, Rundgren, Simon and Garfunkle all mixed with smart ass, soul searching depressive lyrics that fit like a glove! Strong melody, great hooks, top notch singing and guitar playing (duh!) help put this in a class with Tiny Volcano, Pearlfishers, Wondermints and Dada, those pop bands that are head and shoulders above the rest. Right up there with the latest Fountains of Wayne record. Buy this immediately!"
