Jon's Caribbean Party-Jazz scores big!
Andy Agree | Omaha, NE | 06/23/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the closest thing to a party album Jon Lucien has ever made. Each of Jon's albums has its own feeling, but this one is quite unique. You would not want to mix these tracks with those from his other albums, as they simply don't fit together. Jon wrote the songs but has side-stepped tender love ballads in favor of up-tempo romance, with occasional deep thoughts and complex phrasing. Steel drums meld with sax and synthesizer to serve up a tasty Caribbean jazz mix, and the production brings a rough edge to Jon's normally silky-smooth voice. His trademark "bidi-bosh" scatting is in fine form. Certain songs appealed to me most at first but I am now newly perceiving brilliance in some other tracks, so as with most excellent albums, don't just listen once - let it grow on you. I could easily imagine some of Jon's fans disliking this album, and I could imagine others who might like him here for the first time. Then there are those like me who have always loved Jon's music and appreciate his accomplishment in trying something new and different and succeeding brilliantly."
