CD Reviews

JLT At His Best!!
Stuart M. Tysinger | Johnson City, TN | 12/16/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Joe Lynn Turner has sold over 7 million albums, had 4 albums on RCA, been with Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, toured with Night Ranger, Pat Benetar & Loverboy, sung background vocals for Cher, Michael Bolton, Billy Joel & John Waite but most people do not know him. This CD was his first solo project and it is very good. He is definitely a top 5 AOR male singer. There are no fillers on this CD. Standouts are: Losing You, Rescue You, Soul Searcher & The Race Is On. If you like AOR music or his work in Deep Purple or Rainbow you need this solo project. He still continues to put out quality music after 20 years. Check out his other solo projects for more releases."
Great Cd Finally Back in Print

"Thanks to Wounded Bird Records for finally putting this album out on cd.This an excellent melodic hard rock album from 1985. Joe released this solo cd between his stints as lead singer of Rainbow and Yngwie Malmstein. The hit single from the fall of 1985,ENDLESSLY is an excellent power ballad. Turner had a great backing band on this album featuring Bobby Messano on guitars and bass,Chuck Burgi on drums, and Al Greenwood of Foreigner fame on keyboards.Greenwood also co wrote most of the songs with Turner. This cd was produced by the famous record producer Roy Thomas Baker who has produced Queen,The Cars,Journey,Ron Wood, and many more."
Great 80s Hard Rock!

"Yeah - another item I can cross off my "great album not on CD" list! I got this shortly after it was released on vinyl many years ago, and I'm glad to see it out on disc.

Since you're reading this particular review, you're certainly familiar with the two Rainbow hits "Stone Cold" and "Street Of Dreams". You also know that Joe Lynn Turner was the lead vocalist on those two songs. This CD has a very similar sound compared to those tunes. I never was a big enough Rainbow fan to buy any of their albums, so I can't compare this to any other Rainbow, nor can I compare it to any other JLT efforts. But I can tell you that this CD is a great representation of the great 80's melodic hard rock genre. It has great vocals, stabbing keyboards, crunchy guitar riffs, and a solid rhythm section. All ten songs are mid- to up-tempo tunes - the closest thing to a ballad would be "Endlessly", and it moves at a decent tempo. "Endlessly" did get played some on MTV when this album was originally released. There's nothing on here I would classify as overly hard rock or heavy metal, just good solid melodic hard rock. No over-the-top guitar heroics either, but good tasty solos. Good songwriting, no silly lyrics.

If you like the following, I definitely recommend this CD: Rainbow (at least the two songs mentioned above), Foreigner, Night Ranger, Bon Jovi, Survivor, Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money, Michael Bolton (his first three albums), (and here's some more obscure stuff) Spys, John Parr, Van Stephenson, Van Zant.
