CD Reviews

Amazing live set with all-Brazilian killer band!
Erik Werkman | Maarssen, The Netherlands | 06/10/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Joao Bosco is an incredibly talented composer, whose compositions have graced recordings of many (mainly Brazilian) artists after having been made famous by the late Elis Regina. He has also made a very substantial body of work under his own name over the years, culminating in this album as a milestone and pinnacle of his career. It is a live set, recorded in front of a knowledgeable Brazilian crowd in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Joao Bosco is accompanied here by his regular bandmates for a large number of years now, comprised of Nelson Fario on guitar, Ney Conceicao on bass, Kiko Freitas on drums and Armando Marcal on percussion, for this occasion augmented with a three person horn section. And what a band this is! The opener, his signature song "Incompatibilidade de Geniôs", is worth the price of this disc alone (check out the performance as recorded here on you tube, as this live recording was also taped on DVD). If that song does not get you moving in your chair, then go see the doctor/"Doto"! Joao Bosco and sounds completely inspired - as does his killer band - and brilliantly brings across the music and meaning of the songs, which prove their timeless character. Not to be missed for Brazilian music lovers and people who like honest quality music! And with more than 78 minutes of music great value for money, too."
