Croce's Last Two...
R. Webb | u.s.a. | 07/01/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"..studio recordings before his untimely death in 1973. These two albums, I'VE GOT A NAME, LIFE AND TIMES, showcase some well remembered songs on here, "I've Got A Name", surprisingly not written by Croce, more undisputed classics included on this 22 song compilation are,"Lover's Cross"," Workin' At The Carwash Blues","I'll Have To Say It In A Song","Thursday"(night time lover),"One Less Set Of Footsteps","Alabama Rain","Roller Derby Queen","Speedball Tucker", and of course,"Bad,Bad,Leroy Brown",- all of these and more are featured on this cd from the great singer-songwriter's last days in the studio. Nineteen of the 22 songs, all on one disc, are Croce originals, and the only weak song on here is "Salon And Saloon"-piano and voice only. "I've Got A Name","Life And Times" combined make an excellent Jim Croce recording as in the classic debut "You Don't Mess Around With Jim". A man who lived a short limited time, and yet still he was able to live long enough to leave behind his music to last a lifetime. This imported Holland cd is remastered in superior sound, only a few liner notes with excellent studio photographs and memories of Jim Croce."
