CD Reviews

The Best Version I have Heard
Richard P. Carnese | NY USA | 09/19/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This mini-album CD is definately worth the price of admission. It has all the tracks of the original(US) release. It contains a mini version of the colour photo booklet that was included. It contains the latest remaster which sounds wonderful. It is also, to my knowledge, the only place you can get this particular mix of "Teacher". Very different than the mix on the remastered Benefit album...it features Martin's guitar tracks(i believe there are at least 3)spread across the stereo field. On the original the other 2 tracks are somewhat buried. Being a guitarist ,I always preferred this mix because I could hear what Martin was doing much better. Of course the album stands as great history for the band and Ian's music as one can hear the more earthy/celtic influences increase with time. Much to enjoy and the mini LP/CD is fun"
This release is all about Teacher

"As others have mentioned this is the only version of this on CD that is what was on the original US 2 lp version, including the rare US mix of Teacher. While the outer cover seems to be a mishmash of 2 editions, my original copy has the color of the portion on the obi strip and not the darker texured "fake leather" embossing of the later US editions.

It still has those bound paper sleeves to hold the disks, which had to be reenforced with scotch tape so the lps wouldn't fall out after a couple plays of the disks.

A very faithful reproduction of the original set, and worth the extra money when compared to the single CD edition with the UK mix of Teacher.

A nice version for the price

"As many have said before reviewing this album on CD, it is difficult to find a version that contains all the tracks that are on the US and UK LP format. The Japanese mini-vinyl version does include the tracks "Teacher", "Bouree", "Locomotive Breath" and "Inside" but omits "Alive and Well And Living In" and "Hymn 43". The costly gold version, which is now out of print has all the track ever released on Living in The Past. I also wish that the CD case was designed more durably. The two CD sleeves fit into pockets built in the booklet itself requiring great care to be taken when removing the CDs and putting them back in the case. Still, this is a decent version of this great Jethro Tull anthology for the price."
