Great Album By A Guitar Great but Not So Great Sound!
Frederick Baptist | Singapore | 10/02/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This mini-lp sleeve replica of the classic Jeff Beck album isn't as well done with regards faithfully representing the original lp artwork as what others have done as it's a little flimsy and the quality of the cardboard that is used isn't the best.

Sound quality-wise, the alleged DSD mastering that was done leaves much to be desired as the sound on many tracks is really muddy with the bass a little too overwhelming at times. In fact, I believe the sound quality of my original unremastered cd was only a little less as good as this purportedly remastered cd.

Content-wise, this represents along with "Blow By Blow", "Wired" and "Truth" the best album and the best music that Jeff Beck has ever done. This is essential listening for all aspiring guitarists that are out there. Speaking as a guitarist myself who was playing Jeff's licks all those years ago while learning my craft, you would be hard-pressed to find a better role model. Great expression, tone, creativity are all found in abundance in any of the four named albums above.

Recommended."

"Beck is still without peer. This early '70s effort is vastly underrated in the Beck canon. I first heard "Situation" played on KRLA-AM in Los Angeles, hard to believe a Beck record could be a "hit" single in those days, but there it was in the airplay rotation. His poetic, spare solo on "Got the Feeling" was my first indication that Beck had something no one else did -- I still don't know what to call it, but I've kept buying his recordings ever since. Guitar 101 starts here."
Mixed too fast

"The original album is at the correct speed. Somehow this

was remastered at a faster tempo and it makes some of the

songs sound soooooo wrong. Wish they would remaster this

gem. Go find the lp."
