Synopsis

Product Description
Featuring Guest Guitar Performances By Michael Lee Firkins, Marty Friedman, Greg Howe, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, gripping virtuoso guitar licks and a glimpse at history as it was being made are the meat and potatoes of Jason Becker's 2008 album, Collection. Jason Becker still has a strong desire to compose, despite paralysis from Lou Gherig's disease, and Collection CD not only contains some of Jason's favorite moments from his Shrapnel and David Lee Roth recordings, it also features three new Becker compositions, each as impressive as anything he has recorded in the past. Jason has enlisted some of the largest names in instrumental guitar music to perform the parts that he hears in his head and has as many as three guitarists per track trading off riveting performances. Collection is exactly the kind of record that Becker fans have been waiting for!

CD Reviews

Worth the wait
C. Conte | Connecticut, USA | 11/12/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's been 12 years since Jason has released any material (for obvious reasons of ALS), but it was so worth the wait for these 3 new songs!! The Rivers of Longing are amazing songs which could have easily fit on Perspective. They are very melodic & deep, just like any Becker fan is used too. Electric Prayer for Peace is another amazing song which has ssoooo much going on. It's sort of like mixing Tribal with a movie score. As for the rest of the songs, they're all great picks; though honestly every song by Becker is amazing and deserves to be on here. My only quarrel is that there should be more than 13 tracks! That & Concerto is not on here."
I'm bad at titles
Jason Becker | Chicago, IL USA | 12/21/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This new CD was my first experience with the guitar of Jason Becker. Most of the CD is mellow and without lyrics, so I find it nice to study to. Jason has an interesting style and is an excellent rock composer, despite his disability. This CD includes a letter from Jason Becker and a few hidden tracks if you check it out with a computer. All very impressive! If you haven't given him a chance yet, make sure you hear Jason Becker's work."
Fantastic album!
Jan Thore Ramsvik Frostad | Norway | 12/02/2008

"To be honest, I got more than I was hoping for when I bought this album. I thought I'd get more or less a collection CD of old songs, but this album has a few new ones as well!

His compositional skills have gotten more influenced by Indian music, and "Electric prayer for peace" really shows this. It's a fantastic track, and I've found myself going to sleep to that track more or less every single night for a couple of weeks now.

Rain, River of Longing (and the piano reprise later on) and Higher are also fantastic tracks. I've heard some of the other ones (like Altitudes and Air) a ton of times before, but they're also fantastic tracks.

All in all: You should buy this album. It's fantastic!:)"
