CD Reviews

Hansi welcomes Y2K!!!!!
07/15/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the latest recording from James Last, who is the best of the best. In this album, you will find a wonderful array of different songs, starting with "Fanfare", a COMPLETELY NEW version, penned by Hansi, himself. For years, we fans have become used to his concerts commencing with "Fanfare", but folks, this version makes the other pale in comparison, the brass, and the percussion, is out of this world! The rest of the recording is just as stunning, loud brass, great percussion and of course, those VIOLINS, like no other! There are tremendous revisions of traditional Hansi songs, as the medleys from "Annchen von Tharau", and especially the "Kapt'n James" series, classics like "Zigeunerweisen", from "Classics up to Date-4", only speeded up and more uptempo, and "Nabucco", with the lovely pan flute of Edward Simoni, and my favorite track, "Dance the Night Away",a Latin rhythm, with that BRASS, featuring Derek Watkins on trumpet. Folks, if you never tried James Last, now is as good a time as ever to partake in a genuine musical treat, and for those of you who HAVE been Hansi fans, like me, (30 yrs. this August), get your hands on this one, it is Hansi, greeting the next century, WUNDEBAR!!!! :-)))"
