"If you like authentic recordings of Bach music, you must own this this CD. Andrew Parrott has assembled a fantastic group of singers and instrumentalists to perform this work: Emma Kirkby, soprano, Michael Laird, trumpet, just to name two! The choir parts are one-to-a-part. The counterpoint is extremely clear and precise - all the parts are audible all the time. What you may lose in richeness, is more than made up for in precision, musicality and style. These performers know how to sing Bach. The orchestra is perfectly balanced to the small choir. Some may find a few of the tempos on the fast side, but the work as a whole has a wonderful flow throughout. I have nearly all of Bach's works on CD, and this is my favorite Bach recording. I could not give it a higher recommendation"

"2 previous reviewers are not exaggerating. I've listened to every Cantata and the Mass in the wonderful Harnoncourt performances, but the clarity of the voice parts in this recording is far beyond those. Devastated that this CD is unavailable."
