CD Reviews

Iced Earth Rules!
Nightspeed | Galesburg, Illinois | 05/28/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Burnt Offerings is the best Metal Album of the 90's,and their best work ever! Dante's Inferno is a classic. This 16 min. song of pure intensity is worth buying the album alone. Other song's like Burnt Offerings,Last December, and Brainwashed are a headbanging experience not to ever forget. Matthew Barlow's voice is supernateral, and John Schaffer work on rhythm & Lead Guitar is awsome. Iced Earth's talent will forever put a dent in the metal world!"
Burnt Offerings is just a little to dark for my taste

"I just started collecting ICED EARTH cds, and from what I understand, some of these tracks are on the DAYS OF PURGATORY cd where the songs are remixed and I think rerecorded by some of the new members, but I can't really get in to BURNT OFFERINGS because it's just too dark and sinister sounding, where it's more like SLAYER (a band I hate with a passion)than ICED EARTH. The crunching guitars and the evil sounding vocals, just don't do it for me. It just doesn't sound as melodic as other discs they've put out. The albums that follow this I would definitely recommend over this, but if you are in to groups like SLAYER, this might just be a perfect fit for you. I just checked and I think that the 2cd set of DAYS OF PURGATORY is the one that has a few tracks off BURNT OFFERINGS, but if you buy the single disc cd of Purgatory you won't get songs off BURNT OFFERINGS."
