Synopsis

There's some prime Schubert in this 13th volume of Hyperion's survey of the complete songs. Marie McLaughlin turns her delightful soprano voice to poetry by Goethe and Sir Walter Scott, including several famous numbers from Faust--Gretchan at the Spinning Wheel, and, assisted by Thomas Hampson, a substantial Scene from Faust. A lovely program, all the way through. --David Hurwitz

CD Reviews

Delightful songs
HSIEH CHENG CHUNG | Taipei, Taiwan | 11/13/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This set is that Marie McLaughlin turns her voice to poetry by Goethe and Sir Walter Scott, which are the expression of sacred and profane. So we could hear pure and flaming both together in it. I especially think the Elle's songs 1&2&3 are the most prominent between them, McLaughlin fully express these songs to touch listeners inner emotion.

I feel regret that it doesn't get enought notice so that I strongly recommand it to all."
