WOW!

"This is an excellent first album by the artist Hyde, also know for being the lead singer in the J-rock band L'arc en Ciel. I've heard it refered to as his Angel Album. A fitting name for an album that is comprised of mostly slow songs by an artist that has discovered a bit of religion. But don't make the mistake of thinking that this is purly a Christian album or anything. And certenly don't make that mistake with his other two albums, Faith and 666. If I hadn't told you about it, you may not have noticed but only heard a hint or two in the lyrics.

The entire album is sung in english, and the last three songs that are labled "English Ensemble" are like a lounge music type version. I don't know what he was thinking with that. I'll be the first to admit that when Hyde is good he is great, but when he screws up a song, it comes out horrible. Almost the whole thing is on the GREAT side. Evergreen, Oasis, A Drop Of Colour, Shallow Sleep, Angles Tale, Secret Letter. All addicting. Sometimes it is a little difficult to understand him, but english is not a first language. The music itself more than makes up for it.

This is a fantastic album for anyone who is even a remote fan of L'arc en Ciel. You get to see what Hyde is capable of and his use of words will blow you away. His second and third albums are just as remarkable if not better."

"Personally my favorite of Hyde's solo albums so far. More than worth the price for any fan or L'Arc~en~ciel or Hyde and a recommendation for anyone new to Hyde or J-Rock."
My First Taste of Hyde

"My very first introduction to Hyde was the film "Last Quarter" in which he played the tragic rock star Adam. I fell madly in love with the song 'The Cape of Storms' and was determined to find it no matter what. Roentgen was the result and very well worth it.

Hyde's voice on this CD reminds me of David Sylvian, the frontman for 80's art-wave group Japan (an interesting parallel). At turns smoky, sultry then passionate, this is the perfect soundtrack to savor the remains of the day. It's also the perfect CD to share with your significant other.

My favourite tracks outside of 'The Cape of Storms' (which would be perfectly at home on any adult contemporary music station) are 'Unexpected'; 'Oasis'(great for a moonlight tango); 'A Drop of Colour' and 'Secret Letters'. The reprise of 'Angel's Tale' is awesome and takes one back to the days of understated cocktail clubs.

I have Hyde's two following CDs and each has their own special character, and are very different from Roentgen. This is another extremely talented and versatile musician who deserves more exposure worldwide. Then again, he's like a precious secret who can only be appreciated by those who love great music regardless of language and/or culture.
