Intriguing, listenable, original music!

"The early Howells works and the Stevens Mass for Double Choir are fresh, original pieces that deserve a much wider hearing than they receive. Howells' "Mass in the Dorian Mode" is very striking in its use of modal and polyphonic writing. Nunc Dimmitis, another piece on the CD, echos without copying Vaughn Williams' "Mass in G Minor." The Finzi Singers handle this complex music very well. Though once or twice the CD sounds a little bright, overall, it is beautifully recorded."
