"The Thrill Department is the best first album by a rock group I've ever heard, period. If the Spice Girls could play instruments, write diverse, creative music, and possessed intelligence and ironic charm, they still would not sound this good. The breadth and originality of The Thrill Department is amazing-pop, rock, surf, alternative, and good dance tunes. Every song is well arranged and creative. From Summer Song, which has a hint of Country twang, to the Surfy beat of Mousetime USA, to enchantingly woven harmonic rock thrills like Mail Call and Lucky Seven, these ladies show a depth of collective talent that is very rare. The combination of Margaret McCartney's inventive lyrics and straight shooting vocals with Evelyn Hurley's angelic harmonies is fine dining for the ears. There is not a single "filler" song on the record-high octane from start to finish!"
