Composer Gordon Jacob was famous for his arrangements, and he made several of Holst's works written for other media, such as wind band. Three of those arrangements are on this new recording. The Walt Whitman Overture was composed in honor of the great American poet. Born in London, conductor Nicholas Braithwaite has had an unusually wide-ranging career, both musically and geographically. He has held positions as Music Director or Principal Conductor from Norway to New Zealand and many places in between. The last few years have seen the release of many recordings conducted by Braithwaite with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, London Symphony, and Philharmonia Orchestras.
