Synopsis

Product Description
Written by Gustav Holst over a 3-year period in 1914, "The Planets" is a true masterpiece of Classical Music that has been continuously imitated over the years by many well-known film score composers. "The Planets" features 7 movements based on the planets in our own solar system excluding Pluto and the Earth itself. This world renowned musical piece, that always overshadowed Holst's other famous works of music, is here conducted by Zubin Mehta and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. From the thunderously charged emotion of "Mars, the Bringer of Wars" to the faint and distant passages of "Neptune, the Mystic", this release demonstrates the high quality of recordings made by the Decca Record Label in the early 1970's as well as the highly refined sound of the XRCD24 process. Listen and Compare.

Musicians:
Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra
Los Angeles Master Chorale

Get It While You Can

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was my first XRCD, and while I was put off by the steep price, I was more than curious and wanted Zubin Metha's classic early recording of "The Planets." I was not disappointed! The soundstage and dynamic range on this recording are quite simply amazing. It's all about hearing the music like never before, every nuance and sound is audible, from the incredibly clear highs to the solid thunderous lows and everything, and I do mean everything, in between. Another plus is that the XRCD format is compatible with all CD players, no special encoding device is necessary. Given the "hands-on" approach to the remastering and manufacturing of this release, I can't imagine there will be huge numbers available, so if your sound system is up to it, and you are so inclined, go for it while you still can. You won't be disappointed."

"This is a remarkably fine remastering of a great rendition of a marvelous work. The XRCD reworking makes unbelievable difference in the sound quality and detail, compared to cd'.

Very worthwhile."
