CD Reviews

A promising debut

"With a sweet voice that is somewhere between Aaliyah and Beyonce of Destiny's Child, Hinda Hicks has all the makings of a MTV starlet. And this CD contains the silkiest retro-soul cut NOT to grace U.S. airwaves in years. It's a pity really because "I Want To Be Your Lady" could have been a big hit for the photogenic singer. It is an absolutely hypnotic track that will very likely be remade by one of Hinda's U.S. counterparts. While "I Want To Be Your Lady" is the highlight, Hinda's debut CD is a consistently pleasant affair. "You Think You Own Me" and "True Love" are engaging 80's style pop-funk tunes (the latter cleverly samples the rhythm track from the Stephanie Mills/Teddy Pendergrass duet "Two Hearts"). Apparently not just another producer-guided mannequin, Hinda co-wrote one of the best tracks on the CD, the Chante Moore-ish "Who's Saying". "When You Touch Me There" showcases the more sophisticated nuances of Hinda's voice, putting her several notches ahead of the Britney/Christina pack. Hinda also acquits herself well on Phyllis Nelson's "Move Closer". Hinda may be the best U.K soul discovery since Mica Paris, let's hope she has better luck breaking in the U.S."
Hinda is one to remember

"Catch her first on the great UK movie called "G:MT", her voice makes you replay the video just for the tunes. The CD is highly reminiscent of Randy Crawford, very soulful. Good variation and only a couple of tracks you may want to skip. Enjoy!"
