Synopsis

Album Description
Raven presents the first CD release of two original HELEN REDDY albums recorded for Capitol: Ear Candy (1977) and We'll Sing in the Sunshine (1978). This follows the successful 2-for-1 reissues on Raven of I Am Woman/Long Hard Climb, Love Song for Jeffrey/Free and Easy, I Don't Know How to Love Him/Helen Reddy and No Way to Treat a Lady/Music, Music. By the late-1970s - with three US #1 hit singles including the perennial 'I Am Woman' and a further ten US Top 40 chart placements to her credit - Reddy was firmly established as an international superstar. She's remembered as one of the most popular female singers of the decade and her recorded legacy remains a flawlessly produced collection of easy listening pop and big soulful ballads. Produced by LA scenester / song writer Kim Fowley, Ear Candy continued her chart domination, yielding her Top 20 hit version of 'You're My World'. 'Long Distance Love' and 'The Happy Girls' featured exuberant dance-pop while 'Aquarius Miracle' and 'Midnight Skies' continued her tradition of soaring, romantic balladry. We'll Sing in the Sunshine, again produced by Fowley, contained songs by Jeff Lynne (the grandiose 'Poor Little Fool'), Lennon & McCartney (the rollicking 'One After 909'), Gale Garnett (the stately 'We'll Sing in the Sunshine') and Alan O'Day (the enticing 'Catch My Breath'). With superb quality audio, detailed liner notes and color booklet, this excellent release is a must for fans of sophisticated, soulful pop

"I had bought the orignal albums when they were released in the late seventies and listeneing to them on this prisitne CD brought back all the artistry of this talented performer. Helen Reddy was truly an eclectic talent and these two albmus showcase her range admirably by highlighting many different styles and music genres. In fact, it is even difficult to imagine other female vocalists being able to credibly straddle such a rich tapestry of songs with such consumate ease. Special kudos to the arrangements as well whioh are truly noteworthy and at times soaring (I am thinking of the Steve Wonder tune "If it's Magic") allowing the listener to savour Beach Boys pastiche, torch ballads , French chansons and a memorable Electric Ligght Orchestra composition written especially for her.

Definitely worth listening to time and time again."
