This disc apparently offers the premiere recording of Introduction to Choros, a sort of rhapsodic medley on themes from other works by Villa-Lobos. It's a lightweight and entertaining piece, performed well enough here to be enjoyable. The Concerto is also played well, but not enough to beat the best of several competitive recordings, especially Sollscher/Orpheus (Deutsche Grammophon). The solo études are just OK, rather cautious-sounding, leaving this disc a rather iffy proposition unless you have to hear every note Villa-Lobos ever composed. --Leslie Gerber
